The Best MIC for Cell phones, DSLR’s for Vlogging
Today I super nerded out on you tube and many review sites to try to find out what external mic would be the best for me to use with my iphone 8 plus. You should note I spend hours researching before I buy any technology. I always like to have the best of the best, this is the main reason for writing this article. I am not going into the basic specs but I will go through the experience I had to come to the decision to purchase the Road Video Micro.

If you plan on travel blogging you will learn fast that size and weight matters. When I was researching buying the road video micro, I was looking for something that had a very small footprint but had a massive effect. There were several brands out there, many of them a little less expensive but with cheap asian names that I don’t trust. I watched tons of sound test comparing them to the road video micro and the road unit overall was the best sounding portable mic around.
What external Audio device can connect to your DSLR and your cell phone?
Several devices can do this, the rode unit does it best because of several key features. For one it is light weight, it comes with the attachment for the dslr. To hook it up to a phone you will require the SC7 adapter. The difference is the number of bands on the connector. 3 bands for the phone connection and 2 bands for the dslr connection.
Another key feature was that the connectors were bungie style so you do not get tangling.
The best mic to work with a gimbal.
I plan on connecting the rode mic to a gimbal so that I can have smooth footage along with great audio. The connectors on this unit work well with all gimbal types especially the DJI Osmo mobile 2. It can attach right onto the bottom of the gimbal easily. The Rode Video Micro simply fits well with all Gimbal designs.
How is the sound quality on the Rode Micro compared to professional units?
The sound quality is very comparable to the professional units even the larger powered model. Surprisingly rode also includes a high quality wind sock and stabilizer in the box!
Is the rode video micro cheap or fragile?
This mic is very solid, it would take a significant impact to damage this device. This will come in handy when you are out vlogging, many times you will have to set up really fast to get that shot. When doing this you may scramble and drop the device, the rode unit will stand up to most falls.
