Mickey’s not so scary Halloween party. Orlando Florida, USA
Mickeys’s not so scary Halloween party is located in Disney’s Magic Kingdom in Orlando Florida, and Disneyland California. This massive event is a great place to take your kids to for you Halloween vacation. Children dress up in their Halloween costumes and enjoy all of the amenities Disney offers. If you have ever been to Disneyland or Disney world, you will know that they are over the top. Disney spends huge money to ensure this will be an experience of a lifetime for both you and your kids. I was there with my family a few years back and it was incredible, the decor was massive and slightly spooky! It is Absolutely one of the most fun places to travel during Halloween.
Universal Studios Orlando, Florida, USA
Universal Studios has a crazy creepy event for Halloween catered to 16+ called the Halloween Horror nights. They are boasting that it is the best Halloween event in the world. They have all the staff in costumes chasing the guests around, jumping out of things etc. The event is night time thing and starts after dark. There is Halloween dining, a party, scary rides, scary shows and a lots more. This is a once in a lifetime experience that you will remember forever and one of the premier places to travel during Halloween.
Transylvania in Romania, Bucharest
If you didn’t know, Transylvania is the birth place of Dracula and vampires. There are tons of tour operators here as you can imagine offering a Dracula tour. There is a very popular party here right at Bran Castle called Draculas Halloween Party many tour operators offer travel tours to this location and party including Gadventures. Just the name Transylvania is scary, I have not been there myself, but based on my research this is one of the top places to visit during Halloween.
Salem Massachussets, USA
Just hearing the word Salem scares the crap out of me. Salem is a coastal city in Massachussets best known for witches, and horror. In Salem scary things have become a massive part of the tourist industry. They have witch houses, witch museums, witch parties and more. During Halloween this place gets busy, people wanting the scare experience travel here.
Mexico for the day of the dead
Mexico is not a major place to celebrate Halloween, but right at the same time (OCT 31) they celebrate the day of the dead. The day of the dead is very similar to Halloween in that the Mexican people dress up in costumes, decorate their homes and even cemeteries and party! They believe that on this day the dead can rise and enter the land of the living. I don’t personally want the dead to rise but in Mexico this event is a major thing and they have made it a national holiday! Pixar even made an awesome movie on the day of the dead that my kids love called Coco.
Ireland, Derry City
Londonderry or Derry City is where Halloween originated from, they have loads of festivals parties and activities here for all ages. I included an explanation of where Halloween came from and why below so for the purpose of this section I will keep it simple in telling you that this is an amazing place to be for Halloween. Derry city does not have much for local tourism so Halloween is a big one for them and they go all out.
Sleepy Hallow, New York, USA
Have you ever heard of the headless horseman? Well this is where he comes from. Sleepy Hallow is a creepy place that Hollywood has turned into a goldmine for scary movies and even games. The history here is very dark with murder, torture, slavery and more. Now there are allsorts of scary tours here for tourist and during Halloween major celebrations.
Hollywood California, USA
Hollywood goes nuts on Halloween with huge parties like the spooky Halloween Carnaval. Full of sexy costumes as well as scary costumes in the mix this is a really fun event to experience during Halloween. There is a lot more than just party here including all of the homes and shops being decorated high end for Halloween. Some of the wealthiest people in the world live here and I’m sure will be handing out some awesome trick or treat gifts!
London England
London England has a long history of scary happenings and they have no shortage of scary tours and events all year round. During Halloween this ramps up. One thing I really like about this is that they celebrate a lot like Americans and Canadians do. So if you go here you will not miss out.
Shibuya Halloween, Tokyo Japan
The Japanese Celebrate Halloween as national dress up day. They have huge parties and indoor/outdoor experiences. It is less spooky and more just fun. This is a great event for people watching!
Bangkok Thailand Halloween Parties
The Thais are some of the best in the world for entertaining westerners and look for any reason to celebrate. Most of their Halloween activities are in party form. Just like most Thai events there will be massive booze fuelled parties.
South African Horror Fest
This is a huge outdoor festival in South Africa, better suited to Adults.
Waikiki mall halloween festival
Waikiki has a lot of things happening during Halloween. I was there during Halloween a few years back and we really enjoyed the experience. The hotels were decorated and the Waikiki mall had free shows and activities for children. We brought our costumes here and there were tons of people dressed up everywhere.
Canada Halloween Parties
Canadians love Halloween, every city and place you go to will have something set up for Halloween. Huge parties, trick or treating, spooky houses, businesses decorated and much more will have you fully entertained
Philippines Halloween
Halloween is originally a Christian event, the Philippines has tons of Christians and they jump on the western bandwagon and dress up. There is no trick or treating here. Just Halloween parties.
Where did Halloween come from?
Halloween Originated in Ireland from a Celtic Festival called Samhain. Much like the Mexican day of the dead the farmers believed this was a day the dead could join the living. Celts wore costumes to disguise themselves from spirits, this is where the costume thing came in. The Pope created a day called all Hallows day as a day to celebrate the Saints this was Nov 1. The two Days merged Oct 31 and Nov 1 and Halloween was created.
Halloween Travel Destinations
Most countries have adopted the dressing up part of Halloween due mostly to American and Canadian influence. It just looks so damn fun! When they celebrate Halloween in Asia, Africa, India, South America and most other destinations it is just a party thing and it gives adopters an excuse to dress up and celebrate. Before you decide to travel during Halloween make sure to do your research. There are videos on you tube on the topic as well as Google. Look up fun places to travel during Halloween. You can also check out some of our travel guides, we will be updating these regularly to bring new destination related topics.
Do they trick or treat in other countries?
There is trick or treating in Canada, the United States, the UK, and in England. Halloween is a Christian celebration and is not recognized or followed in most countries. So if you have kids and want the trick or treating experience try to stick to these countries. If you need to buy Halloween costumes in other countries Amazon sells in most countries with one day shipping. Not to mention there are many places in the world that the people can barely afford to feed themselves much-less give away candy to tourists.
Do hotels have Halloween Parties?
Depending on where you are travelling, many hotels will have some sort of halloween thing happening. I have noticed from my travels to US destinations that almost every hotel had something going on for Halloween. At the very least they threw up some decorations. The last time I was in Hawaii during Halloween the hotel was decorated and it had trick or treating for kids along with several other activities like cookie decorating etc.
