WINE TASTING
Hawaii Maui offers a treat of wine varieties pleasing to the taste buds for its wine lovers. So if you’re a lover of good wine like I don’t forget to stop at Tedeschi winery an hour away from the lovely town of Paia. One of the latest trends is the vineyards being the backdrop for beautiful Maui weddings!
2. MILK A GOAT
Amongst the enjoyable activities you can engage in while in Hawaii Maui is the option of milking an actual goat. The beautiful island also has delicious creamy goat cheese on its list of irresistible delicacies. Maui is the base of Surfing Goat diary and has for nearly a decade been in the production of gourmet goat cheeses.
3. TOUR A PINEAPPLE FARM
Who doesn’t love a sweet, juicy fruit borne right out of Mother Nature’s womb? Maui is home to a large pineapple farm which has been made available to its visitors for the purpose of touring and tasting of the sweet pineapples at different levels of their ripeness. You can also get married on a pineapple plantation.
4. TAKE A HELICOPTER TOUR
The view is always better from the top. While enjoying that vacation on the Maui Island don’t forget to take a helicopter tour of the beautiful scenery Maui has to offer ranging from the tropical valleys to beautiful mountains, various landscapes and natural wonders that never fails to make heads turn.
5. Learn to Surf!
The Maui island of Hawaii still remains on the fore front one of the best place for surfing. Most public beaches will have companies right there that offer surf lessons. They use a special board for beginners making it very easy to get up, I was up on my second try! These companies will take pictures of you from the beach. The instruction is really good and even better it is cheap!
6. LEARN TO PLAY THE UKELELE
The ukulele translated into the jumping flea forms a part of Hawaiian beautiful music. So while on that vacation you can take advantage of this easy to learn stringed instrument and may decide to add one to your list of purchases.
7. STAND AMONGST A BAMBOO FOREST
Amongst one of the natural wonders in Maui is the breathtaking bamboo forest. This can be located by taking the pipiwai hiking trail which is along Maui’s road to Hana. You can stand amongst the bamboo and enjoy the view.
8. EAT AT A ROADSIDE STOP
If you’re a lover of good food don’t forget to take advantage of the road side stops on the way to Hana where they offer delicious treats from fresh banana bread to fresh fruit smoothies and jumbo shrimp you simply can’t resist.
9. EAT KALUA PIG
Kalua pig is not only tasty but tender and would be a great addition to your bucket list while planning that vacation to Hawaii Maui.
10. EAT COCONUT CANDY
Now we all know coconut is a naturally delicious fruit. How much more coconut candy, which is hand, cut coconut and sprinkled with brown sugar and slow baked. While on that Maui vacation don’t forget to make a stop at Nahiku market place to pick up this tasty candy and strike it off your bucket list.
11. ENJOY SOME FRESH FISH TACOS
The fish does not get stale as it does not stay longer than five hours plus the tortillas are prepared in house. This Hawaiian delicacy can be gotten at coconuts fish café.
12. Try Shaved ICE
Have a go at this Hawaiian delicacy. This dessert is nothing but enjoyable shaved ice topped with an array of flavor. Ululani’s shave ice shop offers one of the best shave ice throughout Maui.
13. GO ZIP LINING
You only live once, so don’t forget to explore this amazing option while on the island.
14. VISIT A BLACK SAND BEACH
While on the beautiful island feel free to visit one of the black sand beaches, take off your shoes and walk along the shiny black sand.
15. SWIM IN WATERFALLS
Now there’s swimming and there’s swimming in one of the amazing waterfalls of the Maui Island. So while exploring this island feel free to loosen up, take off your clothes and dive into one of these beauties.
16.GO BEACH HOPPING
I bring my snorkel set with me while I do this and snorkel every beach I go to often finding hidden gems that most tourists never find. If you are traveling with kids there are beaches with built up lava rock blocking the waves making it perfect for little kids to get used to the water.
17. ENJOY SOME SPAM MUSUBI
Spam musubi is another amazing Hawaiian delicacy for the food lovers out there that go visiting. It is a slice of canned meat wrapped in sea weed. This delicacy is not just tasty but affordable at only a dollar fifty and can be gotten at any grocery store.
18. WEAR A FRESH FLOWERED LEI
As you step down that plane and into the Maui Island be prepared to be greeted with a garland which is a symbol of affection that would be placed around your neck. This garland is called Lei and remember the fresher the flower used for the garland the better.
19. SWIM WITH SEA TURTLES
These beautiful sea creatures can be found in several snorkeling areas on the Maui Island so while going for that well deserved swim in smooth waters, nature may just smile at you and send some sea turtles.
20. RELAX IN A FUNKY SURF TOWN
Now a surf town with beautiful waterfalls, beachy boutiques, and fresh fish restaurants is nothing short of funky. Maui is filled with several of such surf towns you shouldn’t fail to explore and relax in.
21. Scuba Diving
Diving in Maui is stunning, on most dives you will see a huge array of tropical fish including angelfish, massive tangs and triggerfish of all colours of the rainbow. I usually see turtles on every dive. Some of the most popular dive sites are Honolua Bay, Makena Landing (five caves), Molokini crater, and Ahihi bay. The most memorable for me was Molokini crater, there are easy dives on the front end/center of the crater that are stunning and more advanced dives including drift dives on the back end of the crater. The back end is for more advanced divers, this is where you will see larger things like sharks, dolphins, whales and manta rays. The inside of the crater is full of coral, turtles, small fish, eels and more. Don’t miss this dive it is epic!
22. Snorkeling
If you don’t dive, at least snorkel this island. The water is very warm and clear and there is a huge abundance of sea life. We stayed last on Kanapali beach where the Westin and many other resorts are located. There is a cliff separating 2 beaches, the snorkeling around here is equivalent to many dives and I highly recommend it! I did this snorkel almost every day for 2 weeks and I never got bored. All along Kanapali there is awesome snorkeling.
23. Deep sea fishing
This sport is a rush and Hawaii is a wonderful place to go fishing. Every single time I have gone out in Maui I have caught some very larger fish. Most charter boats will cook it up for you or make a ceviche/ Poke right on the boat with the fresh fish. There is a lot of competition here so the price is very fair to do this.
24. Drive the island and explore
The driving on Maui is very easy and is an awesome way to explore the island. You can basically drive all around the island and not get bored. There are picture stops everywhere so take lots of breaks. You can stop at hawaiian food stalls, shaved ice spots, fruit stands and small village shops. I always like to beach hop when I am exploring around often finding secret beaches off the hidden path. Other things you can do is find amazing hike spots, go waterfall chasing and of course site seeing!
25. Hike Maui
One thing you will find common on every hawaiian island is that the hiking is amazing and safe! There are no major predators or poisonous animals in Hawaii (other than in the ocean) so the hikes are very safe. There are also other tourists around enhancing the safety. This is a great way to enjoy Maui as it pulls you out of your element. I usually take a backpack and a collapsable fishing rod with me often finding small lakes to fish in full of fish and crawfish.
