Our Experience at CYC beach
As I said earlier, we really loved this beach. The island is perfectly suited for all types of people looking for an adventure in a picture perfect setting.
The first time we went to CYC beach, we were on a private boat tour. I asked them to take me somewhere that there is good snorkelling and they brought me to CYC. Upon arrival, I was not hugely impressed. The tide was out a bit and my son and I hoped out of our boat and went to go and explore the island while the baby napped on the boat.
Once we got to the beach my son started digging in the sand as he normally does and I went for a walk around the island. This place is not a normal stop in Coron or El Nido, there is no beautiful limestone cliffs or hidden secrets on the island.
I walked around the right side of the beach and immediately noticed a small mangrove forest between the island and the surrounding ocean. At the back side of the beach there were large coral formations visible due to low tide.
Ok, ok I think this place is going to be cool. I climbed up to the top of the hill at the centre of the island and was able to get the panoramic view of the surrounding islands and reef below.
When I finally decide to climb down, I head straight into the ocean. With my snorkel mask on I start walking through the water for a snorkel. Another tourist pops his head up and directs me in the direction he was coming from to the right of the beach. He tells me it is unreal there.
Now I have snorkelled all over the world so I am a little bit skeptical about his knowledge in this are (snorkel snob). The swim was relatively short and very shallow. The water is also very warm making the snorkelling in the area really easy.
Snorkelling.
I couldn’t believe my eyes, below the water is a beautiful reef with a slow drop off. There were massive schools of fish so thick that you could barely see past them. Massive coral formations all different colours scattered randomly all over the place and a perfect mix of small and large fish. The water in the Philippines is very healthy and it really shows in the sea life in the area.
I stayed out snorkelling for 2 hours and swam around the entire island. It is reef all the way around and at the end you will be snorkelling over sea grass. There are nudibranch worms and a bunch of other cool things hiding in there. If you swim over to the mangrove area you can get some really cool pictures of some cardinal fish that like still water.
After the long swim, I was mad hungry and asked the guys on the boat to make some chicken and pork skewers. After we ate, the whole family went for a nice swim and Rayden my son did some snorkelling as well. He was amazed, I hope it sticks with him.
This is the perfect place to teach a kids how to snorkel as the water is really clear, there is an abundance of sea life, the water is warm and there is virtually no current.
