Should I Visit Maquinit Hot Springs, Coron Philippines?

This year our family visited Coron Palawan for 10 days, one of our day trips was to the popular Maquinit Hot springs.

There is myself, my wife and our 2 kids ages 2 and 5. We are Canadian frequent travellers that specialize in family travel with a twist of adventure. The 10 days we spent in Coron were amazing and in our articles (found below this one), you will be able to find out all of the best things to see and do in Coron. We even put together an Ultimate guide for you and it is all free! Our goal is to be the top spot anywhere to find all of the best things to do in the locations we visit including the Philippines!

Our Experience at the Maquinit Hot Springs

We shopped around for a tricycle outside our hotel Casa Coron for around 20 minutes while we ate our breakfast. There will be a lot of tricycles driving around all day anywhere you stay in Coron. We wanted to bundle our day with visiting Cabo beach and then going to the hot springs in the evening when it cooled down.

I found a driver for $600 Pesos total for the day and he would drive us to our destinations and wait for us. I made sure he would also take us out anywhere we wanted to go and eat at no extra charge.

After visiting Cabo beach (which we loved,  I wrote a guide to Cabo below), we headed to the Maquinit hot springs around 5 pm.

This was a great time to get there, it was not sundown yet, so we got a while to explore the beautiful grounds around the hot springs and enjoy walking the plank that overlooks the mangroves and ocean. We took some cool pictures here.

I jumped in to the main pool….don,t do this. The bottom is all rock and it is really hot. If I were to do it again, I would slowly ease my way in. There are several pools and there is even 2 waterfall from the upper pools to the main. This is really fun to explore and you will get some amazing pictures here too.

Because of the kids we ended up in the small baby pool. It is a little cooler and perfect for the kids. On the other side of this you get a solid view of the mangroves and there are a lot of neat animals and critter in there to look at. My son loved playing with the crabs that stick their claw out and wave them around. These little crabs are tiny, but they have big ass claws larger than their bodies. It is really funny to look at.

After around an hour we headed back to our tricycle and went back into town for dinner. On the way back there are restaurants at the top of the hill in Coron town that you may not know about, including a bbq restaurant and a large seafood restaurant called sharks.

Check them out, they are rare gems.

I would make it a thing to visit the hot springs as it is one of the few places in the world that you can visit a saltwater hot spring. Maquinit hot springs reviews.

After writing about my experience here, I dug further and read the online reviews. People complain about everything… Some said that having no showers were a major issue and that the bathrooms stunk.

You are in a fishing village in the Philippines, not the Ritz lol. Enjoy your time there and leave with a good memory. Thats what I teach my kids. The hot springs does not make a lot of money and the facilities are OK. It is not for you if you are squeamish. Actually the Philippines is not for you if you are not ok with lower standards of heigene. Neither are most asian countries. I wrote another article on why I hate El Nido right now. You should check it out before you decide to go to the Philippines as it can relate to many other places in the Philippines including Coron.
