All of these countries are english speaking, however many of them are not english speaking as a primary language. The western Caribbean is well known for amazing diving, snorkelling and water sports. These countries are all major tourist destinations and have the accommodations on them for every price range of tourist. Some of the western Caribbean countries have a major focus on banking and business such as the Cayman islands and others are luxury tourist destinations like Turks and Caicos. Cuba has recently opened their doors for US visitors to be welcomed and this has caused a major boom here.

The Bahamas is one of the closest Caribbean islands to the United States and boasts huge casinos, resorts, yacht ports and many unique experiences like diving with sharks and swimming with pigs! Northern Caribbean Map

The northern Caribbean are the closest countries to the United states and you can travel very inexpensively here for short trips from the United States. These countries all have white sand beaches and are great for diving, sailing and snorkelling. They really cater to tourist here as tourism is the main industry. Most of these countries are very safe for tourists and the cruise lines visit all of these countries. Some cruise lines even have private islands or areas specifically catering to travellers that want the relaxing experience of all inclusive travel. We have been to all inclusive’s in Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Our ultimate favourite all inclusive here was the Dominican Republic because of the amazing culture and their super clean white sand beaches. We found that the Dominicans really catered to family travel, and the Jamaicans catered more to single, couple or party travel.

Southern Caribbean Map

The Southern Caribbean Countries are worth the extra travel. You will find the longer cruises going to these countries as they will sometimes go down to South America or cut across to the Panama Canal from here. These countries are less dependant on tourism, however they do have a major tourist presence because of their beauty, safety and hospitality. These countries are smaller in size and population, but are still able to pump out significant income because of their rich lands and industry. Grenada is know for its spices and medical schools while Trinidad is known for oil. Every one of these islands can offer beautiful beaches, restaurants and resorts. You will find less of the mega resorts here making these countries more relaxing for some visitors. These countries have significant eco-tourism and are great for fishing, whale watching and other popular water activities.

Caribbean Sea Map

The Caribbean Sea is located above South America and below Cuba. There is a difference in the water between the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea in that it tends to be calmer and warmer. The reason for this is that it is basically coved off by islands and the water is more shallow. For Scuba divers you will find marine life here that you will not see in the Atlantic ocean even though they are connected. Some of these unique things include soft coral, different species of fish and invertebrates. If you plan on visiting any country in the Caribbean, check out one of these Caribbean maps first so that you can plan on your beach being on the Caribbean sea.
